Random Musings: On The Movie

That's it. Shoot's over. The grand finale shot involved throwing a television set from the top of a four-level parcade and smashing it on the driveway below. One those moments where the six-year-old is jumping up and down saying "you have such a cool job!" Then we had cake and champagne for breakfast and went home. It's a weird little thing, making movies. There are a lot of parallels to theatre, but they're really entirely different entities. For one thing, although all of the work is done for most of us, there's no product. We don't have a movie yet. It still needs to be spliced together from numerous rolls of random footage. And we may or may not get a chance to see it... maybe it will never make it onto a screen, who knows?

I think... I may be hooked. That's weird, and quite unexpected. The sitting around waiting for something to happen part is still driving me nuts. I'm here to work, let me work. But there's something kind of intoxicating about the whole process. Granted, I was working with a great group of people, but I think I would have liked it anyway. Hard work though. I've done harder, but it definitely has you at the point where you don't know if you want a bath, a drink, or just sleep at the end of the day.

After numerous retries in the harder levels, my final score is:

Trick question; "Frodo is Bilbo's..." I know he's Bilbo's cousin. But it gives cousin and nephew as options. Which one does it want?

Also, I need to read the questions more carefully. Mirkwood, Mirkwood!

The last level had some real toughies, like: "What is the name of the mode that the poem of Luthien and Beren was written in?" I got it right. *shrug* It was a complete guess.

I got up way to early this morning. 11:30-ish. Seeing as how I probably won't get to bed until 9:30-10am tomorrow, this is not a good thing. I could try to take a nap, but that's not going to work. So instead I'm going to humiliate myself by taking another one of these Tolkien quizzes that I keep finding myself unable to resist. It's pretty pathetic, how much you forget when you haven't read the books since before the Fellowship movie came out. I mean, I've read snippets, favorite passages, whatever, but frankly, my mind is tainted.

In other news, I need to stop walking into walls.

It's weird; I was ten minutes away from set tonight and suddenly felt like something was wrong. Later found out that the truck had broken down. Could be a coincidenc... who knows. This movie is cursed, I swear to god. (Should I light a candle for it, or should I just let it be?) Locations are falling through, crew is dropping from injuries, actors mothers are dying... it's neverending. Really, of all the excuses to not show up, your mother dying is one of the acceptable ones. It just really sucks, especially when you don't find out until after you've set up. Means another day for me though; might be more during the week too. Maybe one day I'll be paid for this crazy film thing... Funny thing, working on a movie and taking theatre gigs to pay the bills.

The downside, of course, is that I have to stay up late for another night. I managed to stay awake until 5am last night (this morning). I'd try for longer today, but I get sleepier when I'm sitting at the computer than I do when I'm working. I'll be okay tomorrow. I don't have anything to do in the evening, but the laundry situation is becoming a bit desperate. Must do that before midweek.

Haven't seen the boy in a couple of days, and was hoping to go over there tomorrow night which won't work now. I could have spent all of today with him. Ah well, he's pretty busy these days too, so he understands. Sucks though.

I did pilates yesterday, for the first time in several months (I know). My stomach still hurts. It's pretty pathetic. Reason #217 that I am not a dancer.

I also downloaded a Transformers desktop theme. It's kinda cool. The sounds are nifty, and the wallpaper is a great Optimus Prime pic. But the cursors have got to go. They're huge, and they aren't centered, so using the mouse becomes a pain in the ass.

I'm back on set tomorrow. It's the last day I think. Today was supposed to be the last day, but, well, things seem to be running behind. Turns out it's really hard to shoot a feature in two weeks when you're disorganized. Who woulda thought? It's a night shoot, so I'm trying to stay up. It should be easy, I shouldn't be tired. I suck.
